CAC Board of TrusteesMarch 2, 2006 With the distribution of the 3rd quarter progress reports, the passage of time is brought into clear focus. The Board is moving along in its work plan, focusing this month on the selection of the Master Plan architects and holding the community representative elections. I trust that all members of our community are taking a moment to look at the months ahead to plan their activities until the end of the school year. I would like to encourage all the community to participate in the elections, as your voice on the Board is an important one. With the discovery of Avian Influenza in Egypt this past weekend, we are all looking more carefully at the issue. Since it is largely a disease of birds, not people, infection is not a serious threat to the CAC community. That said, we all should limit our exposure to live poultry and other birds and we should all practice good hygiene, especially when preparing chicken to eat. More information is available on the Internet, especially through the World Health Organization’s website. Good advance planning is also essential for the possible eventuality that the disease could become a human pandemic. Finally, some of you may be wondering what happened to the February Board Meeting. When Monica Greeley went on her recruiting trip, the Board looked at its calendar of work and saw that there was not much that had to be acted upon at the regular February meeting. Indeed, the proposed agenda for the meeting as it stands is to receive the acting superintendent’s report and listen to the two committees that met last month. There are no action or information items for the Board’s consideration. There are a couple of things that are close to fruition, including the selection of the Master Planner. It is most likely that the “February” meeting will occur sometime after Monica returns and we have made our selection of the Master Planner. At that time, our intention is to have a “normal” meeting. See you then!
Sincerely, Board Chair
