 1. Parent Forum

A successful parent forum was held recently. During this session, parenting strategies/styles, communication, and concerns related to adolescent substance abuse was addressed. Thank you to those twenty-one parents who participated in the workshop and activities.

2.Strategic Plan Review

Lori will represent the middle school parents at the Strategic Plan Review meeting which will take place on May 10 (11.30-3pm).

3. PTO Update

Helen shared the PTO’s concern that few parents attend forums and informational sessions such as the recent Pre-K- 12 Math meeting.

4. CAC 60th Birthday Celebrations

Many thanks to all those who participated in our 60th birthday celebration during the weekend of March 17. A great time was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to those who helped plan and organize the event.

5. CAT Membership 2006-07

CAT members indicated whether or not they would be serving on the CAT team next school year. Five members will step down. Openings will be published through the News and Views next week. The new CAT team will be announced in May. Both the outgoing and incoming CAT will meet prior to the end of this school year.

6. Student-led Conference/Math- N&V articles

During the past months, numerous articles have appeared in the News and Views in an attempt to keep parents abreast of changes in the Middle School. Big questions that were raised at the recent math meeting will be addressed through News and Views during the coming weeks. It appears that the electronic newsletter system is working well- parents and teachers are very positive about the results.

7. Returning Students

A quick survey will be taken during the Student-led Conferences on April 5 (before parents enter the venue). This information is being solicited from the admissions department.

8. PRIME trips

Both Grade 6 and 8 PRIME trips have had an exciting week away. Both groups return tomorrow (Thursday, March 30). Daily updated information was sent by email to all parents.

9. Health & Safety Report

Lori shared her report from the Health and Safety committee. Topics included Avian flu and the information that was shared at a community meeting on March 13, the regular cleaning of water fountains at CAC, hot water un available in the bathrooms (it cannot be regulated).

10. Other

Parents reported that some of their emails to CAC are being blocked. Annelies explained the situation with Spam and directed concerns to IT department.

Next meeting- May 24, 2006 (due to Spring break, there will not be a CAT meeting during the month of April)
